Hockey Night In Prague

Well I thought I had typed this in earlier, but looks like something happened and it didn't get posted?

I quite enjoyed the hockey game on Sunday night, between two rival Prague teams. The home team won 4-3. It was a pretty fast action game, with more hitting than I would have thought. There was one ex-NHL'er on the home Sparta Praha team. Peter Nedved. He certainly was faster and just a touch better than the other players on the ice. I was also impressed with the atmosphere of the arena, there were just under 12000 people in the stands, and it sounded like 25000 for a stanley cup final, and this was just a regular season game. Behind each net where the true supporters, one side for the home team, and the visitors on the other. Singing and chanting the whole game. Way more enthused than a Flames game for sure! Now I am currently in Delft in The Netherlands, at Tan's place. She was supposed to be getting transfered to Houston at the end of this month, but that has changed, and she is staying here. We are heading to Nice in France on Saturday, and then cruising around France for a while. I am looking forward to it for sure. The beaches in South of France, and of course Paris!

Probably won't have too many updates this week, as I am just going to relax and take it easy here in, and maybe do a day trip to Brussels in Belgium.

Back In Prague

Well just a quick update from Prague. Weather here has been great, nice and sunny and low 20's, great fall weather in a great city. It does cool down at night though, to single digits which is a bit chilly!

First couple days here I just took it easy and explored some new parts of the city that I hadn't seen before. Robert came in from Slovakia on Thursday. We stumbled across an outdoor fashion show, some guy named Osmany Laffita, a Cuban born Czech designer. Some famous Czech people were on hand to watch it. Pretty bizzare outfits, and hair styles. Wasn't quite what I was hoping for! But was still interesting.

We then discovered that the Davis cup is being held here in Prague. Swiss vs Czech Republic and that Roger Federer was in town and going to play, so we looked at getting tickets, but alas we could not find any as it was all sold out. We did however get some hockey tickets for a game on Sunday between to Prague teams, which should be good. Looking forward to it as I haven't seen hockey in a while, and am interested to see the technical Czech's play on the bigger ice.

Other than that, just went out to a club Friday night, it was pretty fun, 80's night with a big video screen, it was amusing to watch some of those 80's music videos!

Praha (Prague)

Well Prague is quite a lovely city, so many lovely buildings and stone streets and sidewalks. It definitely ranks up there as one of my favorite cities, even though I have only been here for 3 nights, the weather has been great, except for the first night where we got soaked as we were caught in a rain storm that came out of nowhere.

Being here with my friend Robert helps too, as we went to a couple of authentic Czech restaurants, which I would probably not have went to on my own, as there was no English menus. The food is pretty good, however I haven't tried the specialty yet, pork knee doesn't overly excite me.

Just been exploring the city by day, and then going out at night. So many Brits here on Stag's and Stagettes, it is so funny watching them stumble around, ever so early on in the night, I can see why the locals aren't too fond of them. Friday we went to a pretty cool 5 floor nightclub, it was a lot of fun, and since we weren't British it was easier to meet the locals I think, so we dance with a couple Czech girls for a good part of the night, 80's music is quite popular here, as is 80's and 90's American TV, all dubbed into Czech, interesting hearing the voices they use for everyone, KITT from Knight Rider just doesn't sound the same!

Went to the Communism Museum, which ironically enough was next to a McDonalds, it was interesting seeing how they lived, and all the propaganda saying how evil and lazy the Americans were, would have been an interesting time to visit. But probably not so nice of a time to live here, especially near the end of Communism as Robert says there was very little food in the grocery markets.

Today is my last day here, as I am heading to Krakow Poland by train tomorrow. 7.5 Hours! Robert is heading back home. I could see myself coming back here though for another weekend, but we will have to see.
